I guess most "hobbyists" probably don't track their parts. With so many parts cabinets and parts bins (https://savagecircuits.com/parts-organization/), especially those that hold parts for projects in progress, I realized I need to keep track of my vast parts inventory. To that end I have been looking at parts inventory software. Most runs on Windows, but there are a few that run on other systems and / or are cloud-based. One in particular has caught my attention for having cloud-based service or local hosting. It is called, Binner (https://binner.io/).

For me, local hosting is desired, not just to save on hosting fees, but for customization. I have plenty of Raspberry Pi modules in my workshop. I know I have an extra R-Pi 4, so I grabbed this case from Amazon so I can begin the hardware stage of trying this out. The R-Pi 4 has a case already, but this case offers cooling and an OLED display so that I can display the IP Address, CPU utilization, Memory and Network Traffic status.

While not shown here, this case actually came with a P/S and the USB cable, which saves me having to buy that extra. Since this unit will sit on a shelf with no monitor, keyboard or mouse, the software will be installed as a service and I will use my R-Pi bench to set it up initially and install the software. After that I can easily remote into it, which is why it's nice to know the IP Address the unit is assigned.
Once I get this started I will create a project page for it. I just downloaded the latest version of the software from the GitHub (https://github.com/replaysMike/Binner) page. It will be interesting to see how well this system works.
Cool. I need to sort out stuff as well as keeping track of what i got.
There is a Windows version of the software, if you're interested. There are a few other applications I looked at as well, such as partsbin (https://github.com/tanby-dynamics/partsbin) or PartsBox (https://partsbox.com/).
