Title: finding issue.
Post by: JKnightandKARR on May 31, 2025, 10:15 AM
I have a Retron 3 system, NES, SNES and Sega Genesis all in 1 system, and I think its got a bad component thats heating up, but with no termal camera, besides temping each component with my DMM's thermocouple, any tricks to help visually find said component, since so far no abnormal damage is visible.

Well, if one of your components is either smoking, or has flames shooting out of it, that could be a sign.  :o  ;D

Unfortunatly... there's no visible damage... so far... but after trying to power up, I can smell what seams to be something getting hot

Do you have one of those no-touch fever thermometers? That may be able to help you. You would probably "peg the meter," but should not do any damage to the thermometer.

I actually meant that kind of joking, but I just checked, and Amazon has them for under $5, plus tax, including shipping (for Prime members.) If you don't have one, this may be the time to order one. Actually, I just ordered one for myself, and it was an even $5.00 including 6% Pennsylvania (non-Allegheny County) sales tax.

I used to have one, not sure if I still do... All of my EEVBlog DMMs have temp probes to thats not an issue. Was hoping for something easier... need thermo camera sometime...
