Recently my work place has subscribed to the business tier of ChatGPT. Most of the development team has been testing it at work and on some personal projects to get the feel of it. I do admit it is addictive and with my busy life it is easy for me to use it for the dream projects I don't have time for.
Thousands of jobs are being lost to it. Anthropic's Mythos is able to find weaknesses and exploit any operating system. Elon's Musk's goal of humanoid robots making work optional. Computers that use quantum entanglement. All of this is making Terminator, I Robot and other Sci-Fi movies sound more like reality than science fiction.
I've been following You Tuber Dave Cullen https://www.minds.com/DaveCullen/ (https://www.minds.com/DaveCullen/) and he has pointed out some very disconcerting uses of AI. There is a company that will make AI Avatars of lost love ones so you can always have them with you. Some churches have experimented with AI priests and AI confessionals. That opens a whole plethora of new psychoses for us to deal with.
Are we the proverbial frogs in the pot as the AI temperature goes up? In 10-20 years will we have a dystopian society where our lives are controlled by AI? Or will our Lord come by and snatch us up before AI takes over?
I'm done ranting. I'm going to scruff up my beard, put on some old raggy clothes and find a busy street corner to hold up my cardboard sign that says "The end is near!"
AI certainly goes deeper than many of us realize. It is Anthropics belief that Mythos is too dangerous for release to the general public.
I watched a movie a couple of days ago called Transcendence with Johnny Depp as the lead. In the story Depp's character was dying, before he died he gave his knowledge, thoughts and memories to an AI machine. It is not the kind of movie I would normally watch and at times I struggled to stay focused. Then came a part of the movie where you could see the AI was totally in control and no amount of human intervention could alter the machines chosen path. At first I thought it was far fetched but thinking a little longer I could see just how real and dangerous this could get.
Honestly, I don't see too much use of AI... but I do see plenty of trouble, scams, fake news, ect... the ONLY thing I see useful is some of these AI generated videos, such as the Bigfoot jokes, animals doing stuff like driving, cooking, etc, but other then that I see no good use of the crap.

I do see in the news where AI has already replaced so many jobs. On top of that, the data centers that power this system are wreaking their own economic havoc on the communities they reside in, especially Elon Musk's Grok data center, which, as I understand it is violating the law with emissions and other things.
That said, the short-term gains these companies make by using AI to replace humans is only going to come back and bite them in the long run. As humans are replaced and out of work, we lose consumers. Without consumers, the economy is sure to crash. What's AI going to do about that?

That is kind of creepy! I have seen the software online that will animate old photos of lost relatives, but actually making AI versions of them is very creepy! How long are we away from the movie, "A.I. - Artificial Intelligence"? As for YouTubers talking about the negative side of AI, I have seen this video making the rounds again recently. Very disturbing...

I'm not going to lie...as we make leaps and bounds, I can't help but think of movies like, The Terminator (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088247/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk) and The Matrix (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk), where AI has taken over over humanity and / or sees us as a threat. But a more interesting take on AI with regards to being used for government surveillance, was recently brought to my attention in the wake of actual recent events where this is potentially becoming a real possibility. This is a series that has been completed and I binge-watched the entire series. Have a look at Person of Interest (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1839578/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk), which is available on Prime Video (https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0F73X7G6Q/ref=atv_dp_season_select_s1).

As a final note, when I first looked at this post, I got distracted and later was checking my email, to find this...big brother, y'all...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with everything going on in the news right now, it's hard to keep up. As I recall, Anthropic is currently being attacked by the current administration for wanting to restrict the use of its technology, while the administration wants to use it in ways that Anthropic is not for. Does that sound right?

I actually own this movie (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2209764/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk). I need to watch it again as I came away from it unsure if Depp's character as an AI was truly trying to help mankind, or control it. It certainly seems to prioritize self-preservation for the most part, which seems to be true of many AI models that have been tested to determine the lengths they would go to to prevent being shut down.

The use of AI for creating deepfakes is very disturbing as there is a large portion of the country that believes the videos are real, which is ironic, since these are often the same people who refer to the news as "Fake News." I myself have only used it for such menial tasks as creating the profile photo used on this site.

I guess that's a decent use for creating stuff for sites or whatever. I don't even know what to use... or how...
I watched that video, but it was so disjointed, and awkward, that I could not keep focused on it. He did have a point that it is pretty much inevitable that AI is changing / will change reality. That is already being shown in the huge number of fake legal points that have been caught being presented in courts. Any of those that do not get caught actually DO change the reality of our legal system, by creating fake case law.
You guys already know my stance on AI, but I believe that it is already working hard on destroying our society - if not us as a race.

I remember in the movie Terminator 2, they tell the guy who invented the technology what was going to happen and he said he was being judged on things he hadn't done yet, asking how he was supposed to know. But Sarah Conner says, "Yeah, right. How are you supposed to know? Men like you built the hydrogen bomb. Men like you thought it up. You think you're so creative. You don't know what it's like to really create something; to create a life; to feel it growing inside you. All you know how to create is death and destruction...", and she has a point. It's interesting how even Crypto is seemingly used for mostly nefarious reasons.

Yeah - we can truly be an evil species.

In my younger and more cynical days, I used to think I would never see 50, thinking we'd destroy ourselves by then. Ironically, the same movie I quoted, had a related quote. The kid trying to survive says to the Terminator, "We're not gonna make it, are we? People, I mean." The Terminator replies, "It's in your nature to destroy yourselves." The kid says, "Yeah. Major drag, huh?" We truly are capable of such evil. :(
