After revising the design, I came up with a much more streamlined shim (shown with the prototype).

With this version installed, you don't even notice the shim when the sign is in place, which is what you want.

Once I confirmed the shim worked as intended, I was able to clone the design, filling the plate with copies and printing them all out at once.

In Reply #37 in this thread, I had printed a Snoopy Door Corner for my wife, who loves Snoopy. However, the default size of the print was too large to fit over the bedroom doorway, which is where I intended to put it, so in the post it is shown over a dining room window.

In creating the shims for the Acrylic LED Signs, I learned how to scale in Bambu Studio. I was able to scale the X / Y axis, while leaving the Z axis alone.

The print now fits above the bedroom door, which only had a few inches of clearance.

What really matters is that my wife likes the outcome.  ;)

Now that I got the hang of scaling the prints properly, I decided to print some of the other Snoopy Door Corners I had set for my wife.

Here's one for her office. It's Snoopy at his typewriter.

She loves it!

I've always believed in that quote, yet it also has to do with me being a function over form kind of guy. I usually defer to her on the aesthetics of the house. She has to like the look of things. I don't usually concern myself with those aspects, except with respect to lighting.

In the last of the Snoopy Door Corner art series, we have "The Red Baron" Snoopy, flying his doghouse.

This one was destined for the back door. It was kind of my leaving the house theme.

As before, scaled to the space available above this door frame.

Some members were online and posting while I was adding numerous posts to this thread. So, if you're not sure and may have missed some of my posts, please go back to Reply #40 and work your way forward to see everything.

In post #43, I talked about the 2D shims I made for my Acrylic LED Signs. Because of the little "nubs" I mentioned, these still have some slop at the bottom of the slot. At first I thought this would be acceptable, but I'm a bit OCD and it is not acceptable.

So, last night I was sitting there and I thought about making a 3D shim. It essentially works like an adapter, adapting the size of the acrylic sign to the size of the slot. It works quite well. It took me 22 minutes to design this within the Bambu Slicer (yes, I used the slicer software to create this) by making a few "primitives", sizing them, cloning them and arranging them into the unit you see. Then they were merged into a single part and printed (8 minute print).

The top side extends out an additional 1mm on each side to keep the shim from falling down inside the base.

I accidentally made the first prototype 2mm too large by using the outside width as the inside width, which pushed the outsides outward by 2mm (1mm / side). Since it is created by a bunch of primitives, I had to disassemble the entire part to make the changes, then 8 minutes later I had a working adapter. That is, it works with the round and heart-shaped panels.

The square ones apparently have a slightly wider base (like 0.2mm), so I do need to make one more minor revision. But I am confident the new version will work perfectly.

This makes me think I could make my own led display parts like bargraph leds if i can't find specific ones anymore.

You totally could. A few of my projects involve making custom LCD / LED bezels. I'm going to be making equal use of the 3D printer and the laser cutter over the coming months. Some projects involve both units to make something. I really need to re-learn FreeCAD and / or check out TinkerCAD.

I finally got my 3D Printer custom accessory drawer done. This drawer is designed to hold the stuff for the printer. It stacks with the other drawers (which now hold brass inserts) and the organizer on top, which isn't yet fully populated.

If you have them on a YouTube channel, you can start a thread in this forum and embed them using the YouTube icon. I would certainly check them out.

EDIT: I created an AutoCAD account and messed just briefly with the 3D Modeling. Looks interesting.

I would be interested in videos about TinkerCAD. Please do post them.
