I was wondering who was planning to come.
It is advertised in my church's newsletter. I could advertise elsewhere but with it also being the last day of the county fair, I don't think there will be a lot of response.
I have the week off to go to the fair and the World Coin fair in Pittsburgh so I can be available anytime Friday to set up.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, new and old friends and talk about our mutual interests.
Peter (@Steelcitygamer8) and I plan on attending.

I'll be leaving home on Friday morning, dropping my wife off a bit west of Pgh, heading up to Cleveland, and heading to Meadville. I'm guessing that we will arrive about mid-afternoon. I will bring some stuff, but nowhere near what I brought last year.
Me neither :) No more filling up the whole table. I'll probably just bring my laptop and my 2 FPGA boards since I am delving into FPGAs

I intend to bring my Monoprice. I did get the new bed, and the gaffer's tape. Unfortunately, the new bed is not magnetic, and there is no steel plate for it - it is just the same type plate that has been destroyed by previous prints. >:( I want to try the gaffer's tape, and see if that works.
Unfortunately, in spite of nine hours of sleep last night, I have been unable to concentrate on this work. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Quality Inn is a nice place. That is about 2 miles as the crow flies from my house! The Zoo is a nice place. I haven't been there for years so I cannot tell you much but it looks like they keep it modern and clean. My favorite childhood memory of the zoo is the train ride.
If you guys like Italian there is a small Italian restaurant, Valenza's nearby but I would check their menu. It is our favorite but they recently raised their prices a bit. Not far is also a Burger King, Subway, Taco Bell and a Red Lobster. There are a couple of steak houses as well. Also if you like Amish style there are 2 reasonably priced restaurants but they are at a minimum 1/2 hour drive.

Yesterday, on our way to Church, the car was sliding all over (seriously heavy rain storms) - it was some of the worst traveling that I've ever experienced. When we got there, I checked the tires. The front tires are just about bald, and the back are very low. :o So, at this moment, I am sitting in the National Tire & Battery shop while they put four new tires on - for a bit over $700. :(
The motel is about $280 and the gas and tolls look like they will run another $150. My estimate for the three days of meals is about $400 (breakfasts for Sat & Sun will be free from the motel. 8) )
Marilyn is really good about it all - she is not questioning the meetup, but she is starting to get on-board with trying to make some money from my printing. So, I'm starting to look for income opportunities with my printers.

How ironic...my car has a whole 30,000 miles on it, yet my tires are in bad shape. It wasn't raining really bad here this morning, but there were several times when I lost traction at 55MPH. The tires are really low. They
should not be at 30,000 miles. Nonetheless, that means an alignment as well as tires. Always something.

It never rains, but it pours. :( I saw the mechanic checking out the brakes, and realized that we have not had the brakes replaced in several years. The guy came out and told me that the pads, and disks, are bad all around. When I was a kid, I used to take the disks off my car, and take them to a shop to have them put on a lathe and grind them down - it was called turning the disks. Now, so that they can scam more money from people, they make the disks so thin that you can no longer turn them. >:( This setback ended up costing $1962.64, rather than the $700! :o
I thank God that he provided for us, and that my wife doesn't go nuts about this kind of stuff. Even so, we had to take money out of our savings account to cover this stuff for the car.

@Chris Savage I have the same issue I got some good tires 3 years ago on our car we use only locally and the last inspection they said I should get new tires before the next inspection which is way too soon! Also the car we bought 2 years ago with tires "with little wear" needs new tires too.
@granz like Chris said it'll work out, with God's help. I do really appreciate you coming. I've been in tight spots before and I found that God, family and friends stepped in to help in ways that blew my mind.
I'm starting to transition to retirement and that will mean a transition into less spending as well. Our 25th anniversary is coming up in the fall of this year. So this year I want to get nice gifts for each other and take a vacation to our favorite place which we already booked early fall. So I'm watching my pennies. That week is fair week and my wife and I will spend enough on food there and I may go to the World Coin Fair in Pittsburgh with a very limited budget but I've always wanted to go to a large coin show.
I really appreciate all who are coming because to me fellowship with friends has no price tag.
I may be a customer :). I do want a Bambu printer but my laptop is turning 8 this Christmas. I love my laptop and it works great but is getting out dated. AI have raise prices of laptops sky high so I can't justify both. So I need to think things out and outsourcing 3d prints may be a solution.

I was just talking to Peter, and he mentioned your idea about Tindie. Tindie is specifically designed for tech stuff, whereas Etsy is designed for arts and crafts stuff. I used to have a Tindie store, and made a little money from it.
One of my biggest troubles with Tindie was their lack of integration with shipping companies. Prior to my Tindie store, I was running ZenCart (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zen_Cart) on my web hosting site. ZenCart has great integration with shippers, even getting the total weight for a customer's order and then going out to the shipper's server and getting the shipping cost for the entire order. Tindie required me to put a shipping price for each product in my store. It then gave the shipping cost without any concern for grouping multiple items into the same shipment. ZenCart (IIRC) actually let me print a pre-paid shipping label, and all I needed to do was to print it out, and take it to the shipper's drop-off location.
I seem to recall that one video that I watched recently mentioned that Etsy has something where the seller could print out a shipping label directly. In our weekly talks, we set up some goals for the following week, so this week I will be checking that out.

The link I posted above was to their 3D printing section, under which is a section for things that are 3D printed. I have purchased in the past from both Tindie and Etsy. As for talks I can do a talk on my current project about constructing a CPU with LogiSim and FPGAs. I'll bring a DE0-Nano, DE10-Lite and my laptop with Logisim-evolution, Digital and Simuide.
Also remember that there is a $100 rental fee. I know that things are tight so I'll put out a donation jar so just give what you can comfortably contribute. We'll make it work out.

Howdy. Sorry I have been so quite. I actually forgot to sign back in after the show last year. Been a bit preoccupied.
I'm planning on coming this year again. Had a great time last year. Not sure how much I'll bring this year. I'd like to bring some of the projects I've been working on if anyone is interested. Both hardware and software.

Well, that's why I've been trying to get us to discuss it. In the wake of the previous meetup we were talking about how we only talked about our projects with just a couple of people and our conversations were mostly compartmentalized. We discussed having a little structure this time so everyone would have a chance to share with everyone else what we're working on, where we're at and about possible future project ideas.
I will give some thought to it myself and post again with some ideas. We're almost there already, so I was hoping to have something in place.
I can do something on FPGAs and Logic simulators. I don't have any finished projects but I am working on one I can bring.

Yeah, talking about projects in process is a good one. I will definitely be doing that whereas I don't post much on here about certain projects that aren't completed.
I wanted to float an idea for our upcoming get-together and see if there would be any interest.
If we end up doing short presentations on things everyone has been working on, I'd be interested in showing some of the embedded/electronics projects I've been developing and, in particular, how I've been using AI as part of the development process.
I know AI can be a somewhat controversial subject, especially among programmers and other technical people, so I'm not looking to turn it into an "AI is going to replace everything" kind of presentation. Quite the opposite.
What I thought might be interesting is showing some real-world examples of how I've been using it alongside my existing programming and electronics experience — things like working through embedded C/C++, ESP32 projects, hardware design decisions, debugging, communications protocols, PCB-related work, and bouncing engineering ideas back and forth.
For me it has become much more of an interactive engineering/development tool than simply something that generates code.
If there's any interest, I'd be happy to put together a short presentation and show some actual examples of what I've been doing with it. If nobody is particularly interested, that's fine too. I just wanted to float the idea before putting something together.
I don't really like the bad stuff that AI has become known for. Saying that, I would like to see what you are doing/have done with it. How long would you think that you would need for a quick presentation/demo?
I'm thinking 30-45 minutes would be enough. I can make it shorter if there is time constraints.
I also think I can bring a HD projector for us all to use if there is a screen there. I even have a smaller portable screen I can bring. I'll have to check on the status of the projector to be sure. It hasn't been ran in years.

Have you checked how much it cost you to go last year? If you can figure that out, and divide it by 52, you will have a weekly amount needed to attend next year (although it would be good to bump your cost up a bit for inflation.)
If you can afford to squirrel away about $10 per week, that will give you about $500 for next week. Even just putting aside $5 per week will give you about $250 - which might be enough to cover the amount above what you are able to afford. Maybe trying to get some of your stuff, that you no longer play with, onto eBay could be enough to pay for the trip.

I thought of something today. I was thinking that someplace here, such as the V.I.P. Lobby for example, since I cannot attend, I'll make a temp post that people can check out with photos/vids or whatever, so atleast I can somewhat participate. If that's ok that is.
Does anyone have any experience setting up a Zoom meeting? We could use an old phone (I can bring one, or two,) and hook it up to the WiFi. We could leave this plugged into a USB power adapter, and have a Zoom for Joe to watch the entire meetup. It would be best if the meeting could be recorded so that we can all watch it (or parts of it) later on. I'll bring my tripod and we can set it up for the presentations, too.

I have zero experience with Zoom. For video-conferencing my family uses Facebook Messenger. Had I thought about it better, I might have thought about using YouTube live.

There is some construction going on rt 19 which has snarled up traffic along the road that Quality Inn is on it may affect you if you come in before 5 tomorrow.
@granz DO NOT take the exit before Meadville to take 19 north. That is where the biggest mess is. It goes right past my house but I have another way into town. I'll probably pick up a variety pack of chips, water and a 12 pack of diet Pepsi and diet 7-UP and since granz was gracious last year to donate the paper products to my churchwe'll just use some of the church's supply.
I'll be sure to be at the church 9 AM Saturday. I'll need an hour to prepare the communion elements for Sunday since it is my month to do it.

I'm thinking Terry and I will be there whenever we can start setting up on Saturday. I will not be brining anywhere near as much as I did last year. Mostly just some projects I'm working on. I have several older PC's / Laptops I'm looking to unload, but don't think there will be a market for them. I do have some old Parallax stuff and maybe some of the Professional Dev boards I may want to sell if anyone is interested.

I would like prayers for tomorrow. The last two days my allergies have been bad. I get up in the morning I'm doing well. In fact I've gone out to Pittsburgh yesterday and went shopping today. But by afternoon it gets so bad that I can barely drive. The drive back from Pittsburgh was slow going.
I am not cancelling anything. Just have patience with me. I need to rest today and I WILL be there tomorrow at 9 but I may not be participating much.
@granz if you still need to set up tonight my wife can come up around 5:30 to unlock the church for you. Just call me and we'll work it out.
It is my hope and prayer that with rest today I will be fine tomorrow and enjoy your company. I apologize for any inconvenience.
I did test the projector and it's working fine. I haven't powered it up in like 6+ years. It will take HDMI, DVI, and VGA. I'll have several cables for HDMI if any of you would like to use it for your presentations. I also have a small like 60" screen, but if the church has something larger that may be better.
I also tested my projector - I got it from eWaste, and had never tested it. It seems to work, but I have no screen. My projector takes VGA, or composite, video in.
I did arrive around 4:00, and Brian was able to get to the church and let me in. Much of my stuff is there, on one of the tables, and we have six tables set up and ready to go. I also brought a few items for a "freebie" table, plus some stuff for sale.
Thanks for your prayers. I'm doing much better. With a goodnight's sleep I should be ok.
@granz I got your HDMI cable. That room has a white marker board which could be used as a screen.
I still plan on bring the TOM printer although it hasn't been leveled and needs a layer of Kapton tape applied. I was hoping to do that but haven't had the chance.
I'm planning on brining my beast of a workstation. Only issue I have is it only had DP out. I will also bring a 4K monitor, but if anyone has a DP to HDMI cable and can bring it for me to borrow for the demo so I can use the projector. I can also use my laptop if not.

Sorry Jim, if I knew before I left home (6:00PM) I could have brought such a cable. We checked in to the hotel 1/2 hour before your post. Hopefully someone local has one.
