Jumping to Linux

I've been toying with the idea of going to Linux since the early 2000s. Now with the recent announcement from Microsoft about their newest AI laptop I see the writing on the wall. I feel by this time next year they will announce Windows 12 which will be basically controlled by AI. Everyone that wants it will need to purchase a computer with the new Nvidia GPU/AI chip. Also I'm getting heavily into FPGA and most of the best opensource tools are in Linux.

My laptop is 8 years old but still works well. Getting a new laptop with the features I want will be $2000+ plus it will need the AI GPU if I stay with Windows. I've setup dual booting Linux a couple of times on my Laptop so Linux was a secondary system. I'm going to back it up and then do some housecleaning to make room for Ubuntu 26. My goal is to set up Linux as my primary OS and only use Windows for streaming and any program I must have that only runs in Windows.

The other option I have is to keep my laptop the way it is and take my Father-In-Law's barely used 8 year old laptop that won't "officially" upgrade to Windows 11 and make it a Linux computer for my FPGA hobby and daily use.
Always looking to the stars.

In this thread, I mentioned that my Windows 10 Pro laptop which had very nice specs, could not be upgraded to Windows 11 because of the CPU. I ended up giving that laptop to @vampyricblood77 (a member of these forums). It has Linux on it and he's adjusting nicely to it.
