@Steelcitygamer8 welcome! I just put on Debian on my old 10 year old laptop for development purposes since I found development tools, especially with FPGAs, are more advanced in Linux and you can easily find them for Debian. As for home automation, my home is dumb and I have no plans on making it smart .

Hello Chris, Using Commodores and Tandys for Smart Home controls sounds pretty fun though I'd imagine is was a bit of a pain. I've been looking in to ESPHome and Home Assistant and I'm pretty excited about those.

Back then (1991), I had a menu system, written in BASIC that controlled relays connected to the C=64 user port. And while I couldn't use voice for control, I could remote into the system via modem and remotely control things. Eventually the system was expanded to control a furnace via a custom digital thermostat. #OldSchool

I use Mint on my main computer because my Dad recommended it to me as well as to use it for my Server. Then I saw a YouTube video by Switch and Click and she said the it's not the best for Docker.

Well, when you're running a server, Mint has a very small footprint, so that's a great idea.

As for home automation, my home is dumb and I have no plans on making it smart .

I got tired of going to bed wondering if the doors were locked, leaving the front deck and / or back porch lights on all night, or walking into the bathroom at night fumbling for the light switch, only to be blinded and woke up completely.

Now my doors lock automatically, the lights turn off at a preset time and when I go into the bathroom at night, the light turns on automatically at a minimum level and turns off automatically if I forget to turn it off.
