Chris Savage

I used to have a thread where new members could introduce themselves and share their interests and even why they joined. It really helped to get to know others and find those with common interests. Feel free to reply to this thread with whatever you want others to know about yourself.

My name is Chris Savage. I'm an Electronics Engineer who specializes in digital design. Back in the late 80s I was more into analog electronics and logic. Through the 90s I was into custom computing around the 6502, 6809 and Z80. In many ways I am getting back to my roots. So you will probably see some retro stuff on here from me. Looking forward to meeting new people with similar interests.

The forum seems to be working. I will keep checking back to see how things progress.

EDIT, oh look, I'm a newbie!  :o

Hi Chris, Jeff Taylor here, a retired electrical/electronic tech. with a passion for microcontrollers.

Currently I am learning the Python language for the desktop and Micropython for controllers. I don't have a lot of completed projects but there is one I am working on that I would like to share when it's finished and that is an internet radio which doubles as a MP3 player. The sound is really good, it will be finished in the next few days and if I have the time I may try and write a quick tutorial with the parts and code that I am using.

There are many internet radios on Youtube and such but not so many that use Micropython so this one is just a tad different, plus the additional MP3 player is a bonus.

Hello old friend!   Maybe we can recapture/recreate the "good old days" here!   Thanks for setting up a place to do that.

Jason D.

I am Jason. I got into electronics to help my wife who has ALS, she is still alive 2024, 17 yrs. now. I have done many projects, some with commander Data and Chris. I still considered myself a novice and don't build projects too often, unless it's necessary of-coarse! The most recent project I built was a board to simply control the chair, I built for my wife, to fit into our Jeep Wrangler so she can go wheeling.

P.S. I've also been pulled over in my 1991 Jeep Cherokee for impersonating a police officer because I left my LED strip lights on coming off the trail and they go through many colors and patterns but somehow the CHP said I was committing a felony.  :o NO wonder I don't build projects anymore...

So, I meant to reply to this sooner...this software is stock. I haven't changed or added any emojis, board grfx, etc. It took me a lot to decide to put this forum up and I don't want it to take up resources, so I have left it mostly unmodified, except the boards and some settings regarding graphics and attachments. The only add-on is the anti-spam plug-in, which is the same as I use on the main website. I'm not sure how the forums decides when you're not a newbie anymore. It may be post count, in which case I'm sure you will be a newbie for quite some time.  :P

See this thread for more information.

@Jason D. here is a link to an "all terrain wheelchair" I built for my wife 16 years ago. I had trouble finding the video so it goes to show the great demand for such vehicles. Tennessee are starting to put at least one accessible electric vehicle for free use in each of their state parks. That's me doing the test drive at Long Hunter state park when I was thin and had hair lol.
