QuoteThanks. I got a one from another unit I can try first. Wish I could get one like this https://www.ginger-electronic.com/en/retro-computer/24-40-zx8-kdlx-keyboard-for-sinclair-zx81-and-zx80.html#/26-model-zx81

I also have one of those. I had too much trouble trying to get the wiring in the socket. One of these days I'll try one of the ZX81's I have. I have 3 but none of the keyboards work due to age. I only have one replaced. I also have a modern kit someone made that I have put together and has those little switches on it that I play around with.
I like that keyboard cause of the lil buttons, if wear out can replace

As expected, the connectors on my keyboard are damaged, I managed to swap the other top on and the system "should" be at 100% now. Getting ready to test the system. I am keeping the old keyboard, and will be using it to create a PCB to repair it using SMD buttons in the original layout using the top as an overlay, just for giggles.

EDIT: Keyboard swap tested and 100% FUNCTIONAL!!!

I remember that my keyboard "cable" on my ZX-81 got eaten up by my removing, and reinstalling it. I used a scissors to cut it down, and was able to insert it back into the connector with no troubles.

LOL.

I remember that the ZX-81 BASIC had POKE, PEEK and USER commands. I had a subroutine that converted a string of hex characters into decimal (for the poking) and vice-versa (for the peeks.) I was able to do some Z-80 work with that.

I've actually started reading the book that came with it. lol in the back there's a chapter where assembly starts.
