On Air Sign Light

I made this so that when I eventually start doing more videos, I can turn this on outside my shop to avoid disturbances.

There is a hole in the bottom for a power cable to install and LED strip inside. I was considering adding a power switch as well.

I like the idea of the hole in the bottom, for the power cord. The screw holes on the back are a good idea, too - allow you to mount it on a wall.

Yeah, the goal is to mount it on the wall just outside my workshop. I will use a Smart Plug to turn it on / off.

Smart idea - then you can light the sign from inside your studio. Although, with that Smart Plug, you won't need the power switch on the case.

Yeah, that's why I thought about it...because if I were to have a switch, I should have printed it with the hole in the case. But, I didn't, and drilling it wouldn't be clean, since 3D prints are hollow inside the walls.

What Smart Plug are you using?

I use Tapo, exclusively, because one app covers my cameras, lights, switches and outlets, not to mention my robot vacuum cleaner (Wall-E) and sensors around the house.

That one app, is that "Matter"?

And, (I did look through that page, but could not find out) can this be run locally, or does it need a server on the Internet?

Matter is supported by some items. As for running "offline", The Tapo app requires internet, because it needs permission to "link" to your other accounts for other devices it can control that aren't Tapo brand. However, if you have a Smart Hub, like my Hubitat, you can control things offline, just not using voice, which requires internet.

Okay, thanks.

I just wanted to be clear on something...my wife is opposed to the Smart Home stuff to a degree. She knows when I am gone, she won't be able to maintain anything or fix it if something goes wrong. But I refuse to be dependent on a system. To that end, everything that's controlled by pp or voice, can also be manually controlled. I can turn lights on / off by voice, app or just walk over and hit the switch. That last part is important, because when I was at the apartment, I used more Smart Bulbs, and those don't turn on / off without internet, unless you own a Home Automation Hub, like Hubitat.
