As for the Den computer desk...

I have some boxes to put away from the assembly of the new printers, but then this desk will be devoted to Linux / Raspberry Pi stuff (on the left side, anyway).

First print for each P2S is a desiccant box for the AMS that supports a round hydrometer. There are more parts to print. The parts for the first printer are in red.

Nice, I like it. And, the price is not too bad, either. So, the first filaments that you purchase is the ones with the spools, and then you get refills? Or, do you just purchase a few/several empty spools and then use the refills on those empty spools?

I originally bought the spools. Then when they were empty, I gave them away to someone else I knew had an A1. At that time I didn't know how the refills worked, so I didn't think I would ever get them. When I found out how easy it was, I regretted giving my spools away and actually printed a couple (there are several styles online) and they worked perfectly. After so much printing, I started having empty spools and started buying the replacements as refills, which generally cost less.

P.S. - It takes very little to print the spools yourself. Mine came out perfect and worked for a while until I passed them on to someone else who needed a couple of spools for refills.

I tried printing an empty spool for one of my refill rolls. Unfortunately, while it looks fine, it does not screw together properly - the halves keep coming apart, and won't keep the filament in place.

Could you direct me to the actual MakerWorld (or where ever you got it) project for the spools that you printed?

Bambu Reusable Hex Spool with Label - This is the exact one. I made two of these before I started accumulating empty spools. It may be possible to bring you an extra spool when I come to the meetup.

It's amazing how similar to the Centauri Carbon those are, and mine has an option to turn it into 4-in-1 as well.

I am looking forward to that Canvas device. Even though I, like Chris, print mostly single-color items, it is really nice to be able to print multi-color jobs, too.

The spool printed and looked good. I took the refill off the other printed spool, and put it onto the spool that you recommended. That went together, and twisted into place just great. One thing: I could not find the slot to put that locking shim, but it is holding great without the shim.

I then took the non-working spool, put it together, and it locked in place fine. So, I placed that spool next to the working spool - it is about ¹/₁₆" narrower than the one that is working.  That would explain the trouble with locking the spool together.

Ironically, I printed two of these before I started accumulating extra spools. I never figured out what that little part did either. I threw them away. LOL

I watched a video, a while ago, that showed a guy who had printed this spool (or at least one very much like it. He showed that inside the center of the spool, there was a tiny curved slot where he put the shim - it was to lock the two halves of the spool so that they would not twist apart.

So, I'm guessing that you have not had any troubles with the halves separating? That means that this spool is pretty good - glad to hear that. My yellow filament fit on it nice, and tight.

I had no such issues and have since given those spools to someone else who has been using them with refills for months without issue. Nonetheless, would you like me to bring a spare Bambu Lab spool to the meetup? I'm sure I have one or two that I am not using.

You just reminded me that my most recent filament order should be here today! I need to pay attention because it is thunderstorming out.

Yes, please. You have convinced me that ordering the refills, rather than with spools is the better way to go. I'll print more spools, but I really need to increase my filament supply, so another one(s) would be helpful. Thanks.
