...
Joe, I know that you actually got a 4, but how did you like it, being the idea of resin printers?

The reason that I am asking is that OfferUp has a Mars 2 printer that is only $50. It is not too far from me, and I am thinking of getting it.

The offer is here:
Crazy long URL hidden behind this link

And the actual printer spec is on Elegoo's site here:
https://us.elegoo.com/products/elegoo-mars-2-mono-lcd-3d-printer?srsltid=AfmBOop70bqJNfSMTu9kLiT5KTtLr58MmFtpi32FhaTUAbE-mVZ4bcRd

The new printer is $120, but the one from OfferUp includes a bunch of other stuff, besides being less than half the cost of the new one.

What do you guys think? Is a resin printer worth the troubles?

Honestly I LOVE the Mars 4 Ultra!  It's EPIC easy to level and prints are NOT even close to how the FDM is.  MUCH BETTER, and NO LAYER LINES!  The only other thing you'll need is post-processing.  Alc wash and fully cure with UV light.  I know there are systems that do it; this is mine. https://us.elegoo.com/products/washing-and-curing-station-v2-0

This Mars 2 printer comes with:
  • Mars 2 (has a magnetic build plate installed)
  • Mercury Cure/Wash Station
  • Replacement NFEP sheet
  • Extra magnetic build plate
  • Miscellaneous resins
The only real issue that I have with this is the tiny build size. The thing has a build volume of 5.08in(L)*3.15in(W)*5.90in(H) - so basically 5" x 3" x 6". The length and height are small, but doable, but that width of only 3" seems too small for me. (Plus Marilyn would probably flip if I got another printer. :-\ )

So, much as I would like to try out a resin printer, I think that I'm going to have to give this a pass.  :(

Heck for $50 I'd get it concidering you get everything to start. Thats my opinion.

How does the resin compare with the FDM filament? Are there many different strengths and colors? How about pricing, is it similar per items printed?

I guess that I need to think about this some more. Thanks for your input.

I think there are lots of colors, I've not looked at the resins much yet, I just got one bottle to mess with I'd have to do research on the different kinds, as for comparing, all prints are solid inside, and there aren't any layer lines, atleast mine don't, that one might be similar.

Thanks. I mentioned this printer to Marilyn, and to my surprise she didn't hit the roof. I'll think about it.

If you do, I think you'll really like the results.

@granz
I found a list of different resin types. I'll look this list over good too. Compared the Mars 2 with Mars Ultra 4, pretty close to same, but 2 is 2k res n 4 ultra is 9k., so still outta do pretty good.

Well, I put in an offer for it. The seller, and I, are working on a time that I can come up (about and hour-and-a-half from home) to get it. Because of the distance, I am trying to get a time when we are already in the Pittsburgh area (about an hour away.)

Nice, You shouldn't be sorry!!! Set up is EPICLY EASY!!!

Thanks, it turns out that it is just under an hour away from my place, or at least the city of Mars (interesting that I am getting a Mars printer from Mars, PA. ;D ) is; they don't give the address until I close the deal.

I'm looking forward to playing with this new printer. Part of the preps will be to move the AMS for my A1 printer up to the top bar of the printer - I'll start printing the mount tomorrow. That will give me room right next to the A1, where the AMS is currently sitting.

Good luck on it all, I hope you enjoy them all.

granz

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that I'll enjoy them. More importantly, I hope that they'll be profitable.
