Quote from: granz on Mar 19, 2025, 08:59 PMHave you looked into a UPS? Or do print jobs take too long, and would burn through the battery of the UPS? I know that an eight hour outage is pretty long, would a print job burn out the battery for that? But it might help for shorter outages.

My computers and the IT rack have battery backup systems. These last about ~30 minutes or so. Really on my PCs it's an opportunity to wrap what I am doing and perform a safe shutdown. On the IT rack it usually keeps the NAS drives, router and modem going for about 30 minutes, though in this case, I did a safe shutdown before I left because I didn't want the NAS drives to just "lose power".

I'm good with the decision I made. If I were to stay home I would have waited and restarted, IF the power was out briefly.

Quote from: Chris Savage on Mar 16, 2025, 09:32 PMSo, I printed this overnight. 12+ hour print. An organizer and I am making two more, one in black and one in white.
...
This unit will stack on certain other prints from the same author.
That organizer looks pretty nice. What will you be putting in it?

Well, on my bench I used to have a lot of little tools, like different sets of tweezers and picks, heat-sink clips, etc. Eventually I put everything in the top drawer of my roll-around tool cabinet. Sadly, that top drawer was a mess. My new workshop isn't as big as the one I had in CA (and ID), so the tool cabinet isn't right next to the bench anymore, even IF I was able to reorganize it. So I thought these would keep the tools right there on the bench, but organized.

There are so many little things I use constantly. Spudger, Sharpie, penlight, etc. It will be so nice not to have to keep opening a drawer for these commonly used items. Not all of them will go on my bench. I am moving the 3D printer out into the den. I will be putting an organizer out there for the tools and spare parts for the printer. These are on a shelf that holds my filament, as well as all the materials for my laser cutter.

I'll add an updated photo to the Office Evolution article when I get everything moved around. I am realizing as I organize things that I want to rearrange a few specific items to make better use of limited space.

This is the gray drawer frame that stacks under the organizer. There are three (White, Gray, Black).

This is a black drawer for the black frame. There are two each of the three colors. Today when I get home, I can finished the last drawer and then I will be done with the organizers and can start filling them up. As a quick note, these photos are from the 3D printer itself. It has a camera on-board which allows you to monitor prints and / or do time-lapse of the print. I'm not really into time-lapse prints, so I probably won't ever use that feature unless it's for an animated thumbnail for a project or something.

Thanks! The gray one had some issues in the print and doesn't seat properly on the drawer part. Still looking into that. The white one is eventually going to end up on the bench for the 3D printer, so I need to make a custom drawer for the printer tools and accessories. That drawer is going to take 16+ hours to print!

My latest prints have all been 10+ hours, so it usually while I am at work or sleeping.

I started this print Sunday night and it finished while I was at work yesterday. 16+ hours.

Unfortunately, on these larger prints I am seeing some defects like this. In this case the corners actually look warped.

This edge looks even worse. If the unit stacks with the drawer unit, it won't be a big deal since you will never see it. But it seems like this makes things fail to interlock properly, which is an issue.

I started this print last night before bed and it finished just a few minutes ago after I got to work. It I had started it sooner, I would be able to send another print job from here at work, but I'm not there to take the drawer frame off the print bed.

I wonder how and why issues like that happen??

I just spoke with the guy who got me interested in this printer and he says there is probably skin oil on the bed, and he's probably right. I've been printing like crazy and I have to pick up and bend the bed slightly to remove the printed item, so I suppose I've been getting more and more oil on the bed. I need to get some alcohol so I can clean it.

Maybe I should use rubber gloves when I use my printer. If I ever get it set up again, I'm going to try that.

Funny you should say that; that's exactly what I am going to start doing.

Not bad idea.
